Barack Obama spoke to a Women's group today, so Mitt Romney's press secretary Andrea M. Saul thought she'd poke him with this fact.
So is it true that women workers have done way worse than men under Obama?
Well, here's the deal.
Men did really badly in 2008: Far worse than women, in large part because the manufacturing sector got slaughtered.
Here's male employment vs. female employment both indexed to 100 starting in the beginning of 2008.
Since 2008, women (the red line) have done better than men.
But again, that's all due to the start time 2008.
Because manufacturing got creamed and male employment collapse during this time, the snapback has been better for men.
Here's a look at men vs. women since 2009. Since then, Men (blue line) have done better.
Ultimately though under Obama, Andrea Saul's number is badly misleading. Women's and men's employment under Obama have basically done the same.
