If you're looking for a sneak preview of our upcoming dystopian future, check out this story by Steven Morris over at the Guardian.

It seems that Welsh politicians have begun demanding that Wales be paid better by England for its greatest natural resource — water.

Here's what the Welsh government's environment minister John Griffith said in a Welsh assembly debate last week:

"Our view is that in Wales we have a very important resource in our water, and that it must be recognized as such. In any future negotiations or developments, we would obviously want to get full value for that very important water resource."

Given that the UK is currently facing it's worse drought for 30 years, the timing is a little worrying. The latest reports suggest that Wales's reservoirs are 98% full, while the UK government's environment secretary has warned that the country's wintertime droughts may just "be the new norm".

Meanwhile Elfyn Llwyd, the leader of Plaid Cymru in the UK, is perhaps hoping to calm nerves. "I'm not talking of an Opec situation when come sudden droughts to England we get the guns out and say you've got to pay twice or three times more. Just a reasonable return on what is being delivered", he said.
