The 11 Worst-Performing Cities In America

The U.S. may be climbing out of the recession, but that doesn't mean that every city is recovering as well as its neighbors.

We evaluated cities using indicators in the MetroMonitor from the Brookings Institute.

While we found that many are doing quite well, some are still struggling — and have hit their nadir in 2010. 

#11 Albuquerque, New Mexico

  • Unemployment done -1.4% since 2010Q3
  • Employment unchanged since 2012Q2 [Trough]
  • Gross metro product up 5.0% since 2008Q2
  • Home prices down -2.2% since 2012Q1 [2012Q2 is the Trough]

#10 Poughkeepsie, New York

  • Unemployment Trough occurred during 2012Q2
  • Employment up 2.2% since 2009Q3
  • Gross metro product up 6.1% since 2009Q2
  • Home prices down -3.9% since 2012Q1 [2012Q2 is the Trough]
